It is only fitting that my 100th review on Amazon is for my D90.

I got it at Christmas time for it to replace my Nikon D40 which I needed for two main many died on me.

Very pleased I paid the cash to travel for that D90 rather than the D5000.

I did a LOOOOT of research before I designed a decision for the Nikon D90. Initially it had been a fight between Canon and Nikon. I made a conclusion to stick using the Nikon when i already had some Nikon accessories. There are some cheaper models of the Canon that may allow quick change for such things as ISO settings therefore on.

Then it was a fight between D5000 along with the higher priced D90.

The D90 spec was obviously higher compared to the D5000. But everyone everywhere was advertising the D5000. And the D5000 has the tilt screen and so on.

After all of the research I chose that even though D90 failed to have the tilt screen, everything else was worth make payment on extra money.

The D90 is built better than the D5000. The D90 feels and is aimed at people who are slightly more than exactly the rich casual photographer. The D90 is aimed much to the 'prosumer' market. People who enjoy photography as a possible art, a spare time activity and go that tiny bit more seriously than someone that wants nice holiday snaps.

The thing that actually sold it for me (as a budding wedding photographer) was the proven fact that changing settings for the D90 is really easy. There are dedicated buttons for ISO, Quality, Flash Settings, Picture mode (i.e. self-timer, burst), Exposure compensation.

With both dial jogs, it is really an easy task to affect the settings. So for example, in the event you desired to alter the flash settings, you press the dedicated flash button with your left hand. With your thumb you rotate the rear jog to alter from 'Red-eye' to 'Rear', 'Slow' and so on. And together with your forefinger of the right hand it can be done to dial up or down the level in the flash! As easy as that! And the process works similarly for other settings!

For wedding photography this is brilliant, in lieu of being forced to dive into a Menu like I accustomed to with my D40.

It has endless other options and features which can be too lengthy personally to create about. One from the other useful feature is 'bracketing'. This is in places you set your camera to look at a number of photos each at different exposure levels. That way you are able to quickly go ahead and take same picture three times, without having to constantly adjust exposure compensation. Hopefully at the very least among them is likely to be the proper exposure. Fantastic again for each time a Bride is walking around the aisle with your ex father etc or trying to take photos of your sunset.

The other best part about going for the D90 within the D5000 is that this AF motor is in the body. So for example, I bought exactly the body and for your time being I am using your body kit lens from my D40. On the D5000, that would render that lens non-auto focus. However, since the AF motor is in the D90, my D40 lens still has auto focus!

It also worked fine with my Nikon SB-400 flash.

When I bought it, I didnrrrt think I would utilize the video all of that much along with fact was worried that by adding video, Nikon might compromise on the still photography. However, We've found web hosting utilize the video quite fun. You will find times when you wish you stood a video camera - now you do!

Sure, the recording doesn't autofocus, so I always flick it onto Manual AF and put it to use that way. The sound and picture quality are fine and that i love the option to become able to capture a short video also as taking stills.

Just recently, I shot a wedding with a buddy of mine. He was employing a Canon 50D (which is a lovely camera too - much more comfortable to keep compared to D90), however, he stated in my opinion in the end from the 4 hours or to ensure he had changed his main camera battery twice! I, on the opposite hand, had only lost 1 bar on my battery indicator!! No idea what the Canon 50D does but the Nikon D90 does appear to use a considerably better battery-life!

Overall, this is often a fantastic camera. In case you just want a nice camera for taking pictures when on holiday then I might probably save the quantity of money and buy the D5000. However, if you want more from the DSLR and desire to develop your photography skills, you want to photograph fast-changing subjects like birds, try new things out or start in wedding photography etc this is fantastic camera and provides you with amazing value for money.

To be perfectly honest I'm unsure what I will add on the many glowing reviews of the terrific camera! I've used a good deal of cameras within the years from SLR 35mm film, compact digital, bridge cameras and DSLR's though the D90 will be the best We've owned. What impresses me is always that things are where I'd like it to be...all the buttons to me are within the right place. Things that on some cameras are hidden away in menus are accessed through dedicated buttons about the D90. Easily want to change the ISO it's very easy as there's a button which allows me to change without getting involved inside menu at all, it adds up to 1 fantastic camera! I like to consider night shots and the insufficient noise is an absolute dream, it really is the actual fact that good! It also gives me confidence knowing this is a very special part of high quality engineering. These inch high definition screen is very effective and appears to get much superior to most DSLR's We have seen in addition to the handling along with the 'feel' of the D90 personally is oh so right. At the minute We have it partnered using a Nikon 35mm prime which can achieve fabulous results. In my opinion this is really a camera that may deliver great pictures if left inside the auto mode and truly staggering images if you've the information and imagination to look beyond the norm! An exceptional DSLR and i also suggest the Nikon D90 without hesitation!

I made a choice to go for your D90 as my first DSLR. like other folks have said, i spent ages, and i mean ages, deciding which camera to get. After owning this camera for many months now, i am delighted to say which it has gone far beyond my expectations.

The camera itself is very easy top use and even includes a help button if your unsure what something is (e.g. changing flash settings, you press one button and yes it tells you anything you have to be familiar with everything to accomplish with this setting. The buttons are adequately laid out and easy to use and also the camera feels very comfortable inside hand. and i love how the 2 dials on the leading and rear side of the camera are utilized for pretty much everything, and both work very well.

Being Nikon, both our bodies and the 18-105 VR lens that i got with the camera, are exceptionally good quality. Everything feels sturdy inspite of the plastic material they are mainly seen of. The D90 gets the perfect weight, not very light (doesn't feel cheap) much less heavy (doesn't break your neck), I really like it!

I am extremely impressed with all the pictures that I've managed to get from my D90. I actually do a large amount of long exposure photography also it works really well. In addition to this, the wide variety of compatible lenses from Nikon signify there's something for everything! I'm receiving the 70-300 VR soon as well as the fixed 50mm f/1.8. The 50mm is under £100 on here, and with such fantastic reviews and amazing results, who could resist?

My only issue was me (A 15 yr old boy), worrying concerning the safety of my equipment. So, i looked for a couple of weeks into camera insurance. I chose a firm called 'Glover and Howe' which concentrate on photography insurance and i think telescopes. anyway, i pay £35 each year to insure around £1000 of photography equipment. I decided this company due on the very positive reviews within the interweb. anyway, i am not trying to advertise the company, they just seem as an excellent company who are easy to handle (don't try and obtain out of paying up in the wedding you make a claim). I highly recommend insuring your gear, it will be worth every penny if something ever happens.

Very happy chappy overall, best Christmas present EVER!
